How I Use Totter + Tumble Playmats in Every Room

Hello, I’m Susie, founder of Totter + Tumble. I’m always asked which playmats I have in my home, so I thought I would take you on a little house tour and share how I’ve incorporated our Totter + Tumble playmats in ways that might surprise you. From high-traffic entryways to cosy reading nooks, I’ve found that these playmats are perfect in every corner, blending comfort with style. As we wander through, you’ll see just how versatile and beautiful these playmats are — so much more than just a place to play!

Entrance Hallway: Morris & Co. Strawberry Thief Runner

First stop, the entrance hallway! I’ve chosen our Morris & Co. Strawberry Thief runner for this high-traffic area. It’s a beautiful, iconic design, but what I love most is that it’s so easy to clean. With two kids, a dog, and plenty of outdoor adventures, our hallway sees a lot of muddy shoes and wet boots. Yet, with a quick wipe, the mat is back to looking pristine. The runner format fits perfectly here, adding a touch of character right as we step through the door, and is durable and practical for the whole family.

Sitting Room: Compact Morris & Co.

Moving into the lounge, you’ll find one of our Morris & Co. playmat in Compact size, used as an area rug alternative. I love how it anchors the room and provides a comfy surface for everyone to gather. The dark grounding balanced with the intricate flora and faunas typical of a William Morris design adds warmth and depth, complementing the decor while offering all the support and durability that Totter + Tumble is known for. It’s a rug in every sense of the word but with that extra softness that makes it so inviting.

TV Snug: The Standard Atlas

In our family tv room, we need furniture and decor that gets a lot of use and can look good day after day, so the soft blue ikat of the Atlas with our deep neutral decor works really well together. It really stands up to the occasional Saturday night takeaway, where we can all enjoy a movie take out without fear of having to scrub spillages off a rug at the end of the night.

Library: The Merah Standard

Our deep garnet red Merah is one of our newer additions to the house, sitting in our library. It gives us all a space to settle down and get into our books, but also covers a creaky floorboard in our old house, absorbing the sound perfectly.

Play Room: The Standard Globe Trotter and The Round Scout

Our Standard Globe Trotter we have in our playroom was one of the first of this signature design made and has moved with us from house to house, and still looks great. It is perfect for our playroom as it covers most of the floor space but by following a Montessori inspiration, the subtle designs allow the toys/activities to take attention.

The Round Scout is my peace-of-mind peace sitting beneath a wall gym protecting not only the little feet jumping down, but also the floor beneath - and softening the sounds that would echo around the house otherwise.

Kitchen: Morris & Co. Runner

In the kitchen, I rely on the Morris & Co. runner to make time spent cooking a little easier on my feet! I love to cook, but there’s a lot of standing involved, and having that cushion underfoot really does make a difference. I chose this mat because spills are inevitable, and I needed something that could handle it all — splashes, crumbs, and the occasional messy toddler art project. A quick wipe, and it’s like new, ready for the next meal or creative endeavour.

Kid’s Room: Morris & Co Round

Heading to the kids’ room, you’ll see our Round Morris & Co. playmat creating the perfect reading nook and craft corner. I adore how the circular shape naturally defines the space, making it feel special and inviting. It’s the spot where my little ones can sit comfortably with a book, and it doubles as a safe, cushioned area for crafting and even occasional tumbling! The pattern is playful yet sophisticated, a perfect blend for a kids’ space that’s designed to grow with them.

Kid’s Room: Wanderlust Standard

In my son’s room we have one of the original Wanderlust play mats, which is used constantly. From a firm surface for lego building or trading football cards, to the constant indoor ball games, this playmat has been perfect for it all - and it has the most gorgeous midnight teal grounding in our favourite kilim design so it looks just like a rug, but without the fluff and the faff.

Bathroom: Sepi Runner

Now, this might sound unconventional, but in our bathroom, we have the Sepi runner stretched across the full length of our bath. After a long soak or during our kids’ bath time, it’s wonderful to have a soft, supportive surface to stand on. I can’t tell you how luxurious it feels — warm and comfortable underfoot compared to the cold tiles. Plus, just like all our playmats, it’s so easy to clean, so I don’t worry about splashes or drips. I also double up this runner for home workouts, perfect for peaceful stretch or yoga session.

Every Totter + Tumble mat in our home has a purpose and fits seamlessly with the style of each room. These mats go beyond being just playmats — they’re truly versatile pieces that bring comfort, functionality, and a touch of elegance to every corner of our space.

I hope this little tour has sparked some inspiration for how you can use Totter + Tumble mats in your home! If you’re considering adding another mat (or two!) to your collection this season, remember they’re designed to grow with your family and your home’s needs.

Thank you for joining me, and here’s to creating cosy, comfortable spaces that support all the beautiful chaos of family life - Susie.
